We’ve all gotta start somewhere, even if it’s not the first time.

I’ve never been much for sharing what I do. I’m quite bad at it actually. It’s really easy to keep everything to yourself and never play your cards. It’s safer that way. I’ve been doing casual 3D modeling and game development for roughly 10 years but prior to my first avatar release, I’ve only shared what I work on with a select few friends who have had an interest in that stuff. In my mind, I never thought they were good enough to warrant sharing with a broader audience. I now see that was kind of a silly mindset. Nobody ever really meets their own expectations and unless you just decide to stop improving, the goalposts will always be moving.
In a similar vein, I feel like I come off as a bit of a blackbox to most people I interact with. I don’t really indulge too much in sharing what’s on my mind: my dreams and desires, feelings and opinions, tastes and preferences. I have a lot on my mind at any given moment and I think it would be beneficial to manifest that into writing and get comfortable with being more open. There’s also just a lot of stuff I’ve done in the past that I’d just like to share. I’ve worn a lot of hats and there’s a bit of an egotistical side to me that just wants to show off the various things I can do and that I’ve worked on over the years. I think it would just be fun to make the occasional post indulging in my past adventures.
The Sylvafen marks the first fully-featured, fully-completed thing I’ve made and subsequently released into the wild and the high that’s given me has been nothing short of amazing. I absolutely adore seeing you guys out in the wild and admiring the work you guys put into making the avatar your own. Even just seeing a fluff using the public version gets me excited.
I want more. I want an audience. I want to make more things for you fluffs. I want to be seen. I want you to see you. I want to keep improving, keep getting better. I have a Dream I’m going to make real; a Dream that I’ve been dreaming since 2011. I want to make this my life. Virtual Reality is my frontier and I’m so stoked for the possibilities the future holds. I’ll be doing so much more than just avatars in the near future.
…
With all that said, that takes us to this website and this blog. Yes, it’s seemingly pretty antiquated by modern standards but there’s something important to me that I think is lost on modern social media. Despite the obvious lack of support for long-form content on sites like Twitter and, more preferably nowadays, Bluesky - the idea of ownership and control over content and data has seemingly been lost. Even ignoring how easy these places make it for data scrapers to systematically scrape profile content to subsequently sell off as AI datasets, the things you upload are just liable to be deleted out of nowhere for any reason if you upset the wrong person or group. It’s made me very happy to see that there’s been a recent counter-cultural movement towards the return of the personal website and I’m here for it.Modern website building/hosting platforms like Neocities and static website generators like Hugo, Astro, and 11ty have really made it easier than ever to get up and running.
That’s it for now, I look forward to posting many more ramblings in the future.
Love you all!
